We’re not a data broker. We’re a search engine.

We only access publicly available information.

Every time you interact online or offline, your actions leave behind a digital footprint. From public records to internet directories, your data is collected and stored in legally accessible repositories. Surfface compiles this publicly available data for one reason: to empower individuals with the knowledge they need to make better decisions.

Public data is legally exempt from many state privacy laws, which means we are not obligated to remove it. However, we understand the importance of personal privacy and ethical responsibility. That’s why we provide tools to request the suppression or removal of certain information from our search results. We carefully review these requests to prevent misuse by those who may seek to hide fraud, impersonation, or other malicious behavior.

Our mission is to help build transparency and trust while also respecting personal dignity and privacy.

Your email address is used for identity verification and secure delivery.

Do No Sell: Right to Opt Out

Surfface may share non-personal information with third parties for advertising purposes in line with our Privacy Policy. You may opt out of marketing cookies at any time by updating your cookie preferences.

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as opt-out requests for all users, not just California residents. If our site detects a GPC signal from your device, we will automatically interpret it as an opt out.

Correct: Right to Correct

Surfface offers various ways for users to correct information related to their interaction with the website.

Customers can do this by using the account settings pages while logged in. Customers and non-customers can also contact us by emailing us at [email protected]

Surfface currently limits person-related information to social media profiles and image sources. We prioritize legal and ethical standards. First we ensure compliance, then we release.

Delete: Your Right to Delete

You may request deletion of your user data at any time. Account deletion also cancels any subscriptions and removes data where legally permitted. Requests are processed within 5 business days.

Note: Some data may be retained for legal, fraud prevention, or contractual obligations.

Note: Deleting your user information will NOT prevent other users from searching for your information through our services. To suppress your information from appearing on our website, please use a Suppression tool.

Public and Search Data

It is accessible to anyone and can be searched, viewed, or analyzed by the public. Surfface does not have the authority to remove data from the original third-party sources.

De-index

Surfface provides a tool that allows you to request the removal of links from our search results, but only if the content has already been taken down from the web. This tool may not remove content that is still publicly accessible. However, your request will be carefully reviewed, and in certain cases, we may choose to exclude publicly available information from our search results based on the circumstances.

If you have a URL to an image, an image file, or a webpage that is no longer active or has been removed from public view, you can submit it for exclusion from Surfface’s search results.

If you want a public image or webpage removed, you must first take it down yourself or contact the site owner or publisher to do so. After the content is no longer available online, you may submit the URL for removal.

Once your request has been approved, avoid reposting the same content at that URL. If the content becomes public again, it may be collected and reappear in Surfface search results.

Suppression

Suppression is a courtesy tool we provide for individuals who prefer not to appear, either fully or partially, in Surfface's search results. Publicly available data is exempt from state privacy laws. This means Surfface is not legally required to exclude this information from its index. However, we choose to offer this option voluntarily, in good faith, and out of respect for individual privacy.

Please note that suppression only affects how information is displayed on Surfface. It does not remove data from third-party websites or the original sources where the information was published.

To submit a suppression request, you must verify your identity. This includes providing your full name, date of birth, and a valid email address that you can confirm.

Even after your information is suppressed, it may still appear in limited ways across our platform. For example, your name or associated details may continue to show up as a possible relative or associate in other individuals' reports, or in public listings such as government records or sex offender registries.

Because public records are collected from a wide range of sources, minor inconsistencies in the data can make it difficult to fully remove every trace associated with your name. If you still see information about yourself after suppression, please contact us so we can review and, if possible, further address the issue.
Suppression requests are typically processed within 5 business days. You will receive an email notification once your request has been completed.

Biometric Data: Access, Delete and Opt-Out

You may check whether Surfface has your face stored as part of our vectorized facial characteristics database. In addition, you can request the deletion of this data (if present) and ask to prevent any future biometric processing related to your face.

If your face is found in our vectorized facial data, we will inform you and display the associated images. If no such vectorized data exists but your face still appears in search results, it means the image was matched using non-biometric methods, such as visual similarity or contextual information, not facial recognition technology.

When you choose to opt out of biometric processing, we will remove all images containing your face from our biometric database. In order to prevent your face from being processed and added again in future searches, we need to collect and store a version of your biometric data. This consists of a unique set of vectorized facial characteristics that cannot be reverse-engineered to recreate your face. No face landmarks.

Please note that your face may still appear in search results if it is matched using non-biometric techniques.

To complete this request, we require a photo of your face as shown on a government-issued photo ID. This allows us to identify any search results that may relate to you and helps prevent fraudulent requests.

We only need to see your face and the name of the issuing government. We strongly encourage you to redact all other personal information on the ID. All documents and images you submit will be permanently deleted after your request has been processed.
Requests are typically processed within 5 business days. You will receive an email notification once the process is complete.

Additional Privacy Rights and Legal Requests

Authorized Agent Requests

Certain laws allow authorized agents to submit privacy-related requests on behalf of consumers. To protect the privacy and security of consumer information, agents must verify their authority before any request will be processed.

Requests submitted by an authorized agent should be sent to [email protected] and must include the following:

  • A written authorization signed by the consumer that includes the consumer's full name, mailing address, telephone number, and the valid email address used to interact with Surfface. The document must clearly grant the agent authority to act on the consumer's behalf.
  • A certificate of good standing issued by the agent's state of organization.

Alternatively, an agent may submit a valid power of attorney signed by the consumer, along with the consumer's verified email address used with Surfface. We will use this email to confirm the agent's authority directly with the consumer.

Federal Judiciary Requests

If you are a Federal Judge, or a senior, recalled, or retired Federal Judge, or the spouse, parent, sibling, or child of one, or if you live with any of these individuals, you may submit a request under the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act of 2022 by emailing [email protected].

To help us locate your record and process your request, please provide either a screenshot of the record found on our site that pertains to you, or include your full name, date of birth, city and state of residence, phone number, and email address.

All information submitted will be used solely to process and fulfill your request in accordance with this law. If you are not the judge yourself, please also include the name of the Federal Judge and your relationship to them.

You may not use our service or the information it provides to make decisions about consumer credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or any other purpose that would require FCRA compliance. Surfface does not provide consumer reports and is not a consumer reporting agency. (These terms have special meanings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 USC 1681 et seq., (“FCRA”), which are incorporated herein by reference.) Surfface does not make any representation or warranty about the accuracy of the information available through our website or about the character or integrity of the person about whom you inquire.
